Sod Calculator

What This Calculator Does

The Sod Calculator determines how many pieces of sod and how many pallets you need to cover your lawn area. Enter the lawn length and width in feet to get the total square footage, the number of individual sod pieces, and the number of pallets required.

Sod is the fastest way to establish a lawn - providing instant green coverage without the waiting and weed competition of seeding. Standard sod pieces measure 2 ft x 16 inches (2.67 sq ft) and are sold per piece or per pallet. A full pallet covers approximately 450 square feet (170 pieces) and weighs 1,500-2,500 lbs depending on moisture content.

Sod pricing varies by grass type. Common Bermuda: $0.30-$0.60 per sq ft. Fescue: $0.35-$0.75 per sq ft. Zoysia: $0.40-$0.90 per sq ft.

How to Use

  1. Measure the lawn length and width in feet. For irregular lawns, divide into rectangles and sum the areas.
  2. Enter the length and width into the calculator fields above.
  3. Click "Calculate" to get the square footage, sod pieces, and pallets needed.
  4. Order sod for delivery - it must be installed within 24-48 hours of harvest for best results.
  5. Prepare the soil (grade, amend, and water) before the sod arrives - timing is critical.
